Elong’o Afrika Initiatives is a community-based organization founded in 2020 with the core mission of empowering marginalized communities in the Maasai Mara region of Kenya and beyond. Derived from the Maasai word “Elong’o,” meaning “shield” or “protection,” our organization strives to protect, guide, and empower the communities we serve through sustainable development practices and inclusive leadership.

With a focus on Gender and Conservation, we integrate storytelling, evidence-based practices, and community-driven solutions to create lasting change. By aligning our programs with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we work toward achieving SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).

What We Do

— Mentorship for Girls' Success

We offer innovative mentorship programs that pair girls with experienced women role models. These mentors provide guidance, support, and encouragement, helping girls develop academic skills, leadership qualities, and self-confidence.

— Workshops on Empowerment

Our interactive workshops address critical issues like gender equality, life skills development, sexual and reproductive health, and FGM prevention. These workshops equip girls with the knowledge and tools to make informed choices and advocate for their rights.

— Ending FGM and Early Marriages

Elong’o CBO tackles harmful traditional practices like Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and early marriage. We work with communities to raise awareness, promote dialogue, and advocate for positive change to ensure a brighter future for girls.

— Clean-Up Exercises for a Healthy Community

We organize regular clean-up exercises, mobilizing community members to remove waste, beautify public spaces, and foster a sense of environmental responsibility. These initiatives promote a cleaner and healthier environment for all.

— Tree Planting for a Sustainable Future

Elong’o CBO actively engages the community in tree-planting programs to combat deforestation, improve air quality, and mitigate the effects of climate change. By planting trees, we are investing in a greener future for generations to come.

Impact Stories

CSR Activities and Tree Planting

Since its inception,Elong’o CBO has undertaken CSR activities in more than 30 schools and planted more than 1000 tree seedlings in various locations within Kimintet and.

Girls rescued from FGM and Early Marriages

3 girls were rescued from early marriages.Two of them got sponsors who took them to school while the other one was taken to a vocational training centre where she gained the skills to empower her economically.
